I saw an easy and frugal homemade applesauce recipe recently on a food blog that I follow = Cookin Cannuck = that was too intriguing to pass up! Thanks, Dara, for sharing your family recipe for Crock Pot Applesauce!
I, of course tinkered with it a little, adding lemon juice and a little extra sugar to compensate, and the resulting substance was so delicious, I decided “applesauce” is word that is too inadequate to capture the yumminess – hence: Apple Bliss!!!
SLOW COOKER APPLE BLISS (APPLESAUCE) RECIPE
4 large Honey Crisp apples, peeled, cored and sliced
4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
4 large Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup apple juice or cider
1/4 teaspoon salt
Toss apples with all remaining ingredients and place in a slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for about 6 hours, uncovering and stirring and wiping water from lid occasionally to help remove water and thicken applesauce.
Store in airtight container in refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
